With the move to Alert Level 3 on September 21 we’re happy to report that construction has recommenced at 7 Shea Terrace. The project team is making good progress under strict protocols to keep everyone safe from Delta and a new date has been set for the reopening of our Inpatient Unit (IPU).

Inpatient Unit reopening

Originally scheduled to reopen in mid-September, the Inpatient Unit will now reopen in late November. For every week spent at Alert Level 4 we were delayed by a week, and then Level 3 restrictions now mean that work is slower than expected and has set the date back a little further. Keep an eye out for the removal of the scaffolding in the coming weeks!

Welcoming patients and whānau back

With our Inpatient Unit expected to reopen in late November we will be able to welcome back patients and their whānau. All but three of the IPU bedrooms will have been completed and nine rooms will be available for patient use. The highly anticipated new whānau space will be partially complete. While the IPU reception area and kitchen will have been demolished to make way for new modern spaces we will have a temporary ‘heat and serve’ facility to provide meals, and patients and whānau can continue to expect high-quality, nutritious meals that meet their individual needs.
