One of our incredible volunteers, Pennie Kennings, has been named a finalist in the Westfield Albany Local Heroes awards! Now she needs your vote to win a $20,000 grant for Harbour Hospice! Please vote for Pennie today.
Pennie has been recognised for her tireless work as the coordinator of Harbour Hospice North Shore’s Life Story team. The team’s life story writers visit patients one-on-one in their homes to record their life stories, creating treasured books that bring solace to both them and their loved ones. Pennie has volunteered for Harbour Hospice for 17 years, and run the group for about 14 years, providing training and ongoing support, and says that what she loves about it is seeing the joy that telling their life stories brings to patients.
“Their lives are punctuated by illness and medical appointments, so they really just enjoy being able to talk about times gone by – the byproduct being a lovely record that their family can keep,” Pennie says.
Your vote today will take us one step closer to winning a $20,000 grant for Harbour Hospice that we would use to purchase three specialised beds to provide patients with comfort and support, and equipment for the life story programme.
