Raised $6,800 to show gratitude to the ongoing support of Harbour Hospice

Starting with a $500 goal, Manu and Afi Sapolu never thought they’d raise close to $7,000 by running 200kms across one month in memory of their mum. But their dedication and incredible support network, saw them not achieve an incredible personal goal but also give back to a charity that gave their family so much in their time of need.

“Harbour Hospice supported our mum and family during a really tough season. They had nurses that came and checked up on mum at home, and we were also lucky enough to stay at the Inpatient Unit where we were able to bring our dog Sole,” Manu said.

“And the support didn’t stop once Mum had passed away. Our family were really fortunate to have access to a lot of services after she died, which is why we wanted to do a little bit to give back.”

Through their fatigue and the mental challenge they faced, Manu and Afi were reminded of their mum and her battle with cancer which motivated them to moving through their own pain and struggles.

“We're just so fortunate to be surrounded by such amazing people, especially because it did get challenging at times and we had to really remind ourselves why we set out to do what we did.”
