After watching a friend pass away in Hospice care, Rob Heath always knew he would find a way to get involved in Hospice one day. He was so impressed with the care his friend received and particularly remembers that the Hospice had a cat that would give people comfort and it was called “Hospuss”.

Rob has had a varied career since moving from the UK to NZ in 1960 and now spends his time volunteering for Hospice and the Hyundai Marine Sports Centre in Okahu Bay, as he is a keen sailor.

Rob initially volunteered as a Driver with Hospice and has been involved with many of our patients. However he realised there was another job that needed doing: the cardboard was piling up in the basement at Shea Tce and so Rob now visits Hospice every Wednesday, cuts down boxes and ties them into bundles. It is surprising how many boxes are delivered to Hospice each week with clinical, food and office supplies and it takes Rob about 3 hours each week to break them all down and get them ready for collection. Hospice is so grateful to Rob for seeing that he could help Hospice in this way.
