Valerie Alder was inspired to help Hospice after the invaluable service they offered her and her family when her daughter died 8 years ago.

Valerie is a tireless volunteer in our Devonport shop working at least one shift each week. Valerie has a love of the finer things in life and in addition to her regular shift, she cleans and restores all the silver donations to their former glory. Valerie spent 27 years in the Navy and maybe it was those years doing the bright work (polishing the brass) that got her started. She loves to showcase her polished silver in the window, mixed with beautiful crystal and says people see it twinkling away and it is soon off to a lovely new home.

Valerie loves working in Devonport Hospice shop – she says that helping make money for people who need end of life care is something she now finds so rewarding: I love that I can help raise money to provide that care. Every little bit helps and if I can get an extra few dollars out of something to help Hospice then it’s a job worth doing”.
