11 February 2026
On Saturday 14 February, 18 of our team members will push themselves to their limits to raise funds for Harbour Hospice in Total Sport’s Harper Digital Coastal Challenge 2026. The Challenge is a gruelling 33km race along wider Tāmaki Makaurau’s eastern coastline, starting at Arkles Bay and finishing at Devonport.
It’s divided into legs so people can compete in teams, or you can do the whole 33km – and it’s not a race for the fainthearted! Last year there were literally blood, sweat and tears with challenging weather conditions forcing competitors to dig deep. The weather is looking better this year!
Our 2026 team is made up of people from all facets of our organisation - Volunteer Services, Clinical, Operations, Retail, Communications, People and Culture and our Senior Leadership Team. They’ll cover the course in four teams of four or five, with each person completing at least one leg of the race.
The Coastal Challenge was started in the early 2000s by Total Sport’s Aaron Carter, whose mum Sandy was cared for by Harbour Hospice. To date, the event has raised more than $330,000 for Harbour Hospice, and we’ve been its official charity partner since 2012.
Our Hospice Hobblers team will not be the fastest on the day, but we will have a lot of fun. It’s a real day of connection, camaraderie and pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones as we support each other around the course while raising vital funds for Harbour Hospice.
A big shout-out to the volunteers who will be marshalling on the day – many of them are Harbour Hospice volunteers. And a big thank you to Babcock, who have raised $6200 for us already and we haven’t even crossed the startline. Also Rapid Relief Team, who do a fantastic job of raising funds for us on the day running the sausage sizzle at the finish line.
If you’d like to support us by making a donation, we’d be chuffed. Here’s the link – and please share with your family and friends!
