Self Care Programmes

Relaxation and Self Care (Hibiscus Coast)
Who: For patients and their main carer.

What purpose: This programme provides education, guided mindfulness and relaxation practices and support. The focus is on managing stress and anxiety. Other topics include nutrition, exercise and sleep. This programme is facilitated by our social worker.

When: Thursdays 10:30am – 12:00pm. This is a 6 week programme and participants are asked to start in week 1 or week 2. Morning tea is provided.

Chair Yoga & Breathing (Hibiscus Coast)
Who: Patients and their main carer.

What purpose: Chair yoga involves simple and gentle body centered yoga practices which have been adapted and modified to suit hospices' patients. The practices will focus on mindfulness of body and breath, with a focus on relaxation. Chair yoga is effective at reducing tension and stress and improving breathing and mobility.

This class is taught by a qualified yoga teacher.

When: Tuesdays 10:15am – 11:15am.

Where: Harbour Hospice Hibiscus Coast, 2a John Dee Crescent, Whangaparoa.

Movement to Music (Hibiscus Coast)
Who: For patients, family members and those who are bereaved.

What purpose: Modified and simplified Tai Chi. Low impact movement to music designed to promote relaxation and improve wellbeing.

When: Mondays 10:30am – 12:00pm

Where: Harbour Hospice Hibiscus Coast, 2a John Dee Crescent, Whangaparoa.

Pamper Days (Hibiscus Coast)
Who: For bereaved women.

What purpose: Pampering by qualified professionals. They offer massage, hair styling, feet and nail manicures and much more. A delicious lunch and morning tea is provided.

When: On a Sunday four times during the year.

Where: Harbour Hospice Hibiscus Coast, 2a John Dee Crescent, Whangaparoa.

Compassion and Meditation (North Shore)

Who: Anyone.

Purpose: For people seeking quiet time as part of their day.

When: Every Monday and Friday at 2:00pm (15 minutes)

Where: The Quiet Room, Harbour Hospice North Shore, 7 Shea Terrace, Takapuna.

Complementary Therapy (North Shore)

For: Patients, family, whānau or carers who would benefit from a massage or reiki therapy.

What purpose: Relaxation and the relief of tension.

When: Available by appointment.

Where: In the Complementary Therapy Room, Harbour Hospice, 7 Shea Terrace, North Shore.
